Special Olympics Maryland Goes Hollywood!

Polar Bear Diaries: Road to the Plunge is a unique web-based video-short series that chronicles the hilarious and humbling adventures of a group from Baltimore who tackle the Great White North in pursuit of polar bears and the perfect Polar Bear Plunge.

The adventures of the cast and crew include their pre-Plunge training, attempting to convince the Churchill Town Council that jumping into freezing water is really fun, a meet-and-greet autograph session for McCrary with local school children, getting up-close and personal with a polar bear, and Plunge Day when the group undertakes an enthusiastic dip into Hudson Bay!

Thanks to presenting sponsor Aerotek, the film series was officially released to the public on a weekly basis beginning Friday, December 14, and will be available on www.plungemd.com. One new episode will be released every Friday until January 25, 2008.

Retired Ravens Defensive End Michael McCrary stars in Polar Bear Diaries, alongside SOMD athlete Jimmy Myrick, Jr., local actor and producer Frank Lama, and Tom Schniedwind, VP of Marketing for Special Olympics Maryland and co-founder of the MSP Polar Bear Plunge. 98 Rock's Mickey, Amelia & Spiegel also appear in the film series.

Polar Bear Diaries was created and developed as part of an Internet marketing campaign surrounding the 12th Annual Maryland State Police Polar Bear Plunge on Saturday, Jan. 26, 2008 at Sandy Point State Park in Annapolis. The fundraising goal for the 2008 event is $3 million, with all of the proceeds benefiting Special Olympics Maryland.

To arrange interviews with one of the intrepid team members or request video links to Polar Bear Diaries, please contact Kelley Schniedwind, SOMD, at 443-386-7965.
