Aerotek Supports Special Olympics Maryland at Plungapalooza 2010
Aerotek, Inc., a leading U.S. staffing provider based in Hanover, is supporting Special Olympics Maryland as the Founding Sponsor of Plungapalooza 2010 featuring the Maryland State Police Polar Bear Plunge to be held on Saturday, January 30 at Sandy Point State Park. Event coordinators are expecting 15,000 participants in the event’s 14th year with a fundraising goal of $4 million for Special Olympics Maryland. Like the event itself, Aerotek’s support of the Plunge grows significantly each year. Last year Aerotek’s Corporate and local offices in Maryland, Pennsylvania, Virgina and New Jersey donated more than 480 hours of volunteer service in support of Special Olympics Maryland.
A total of 170 Aerotek employees jumped into the Chesapeake Bay last winter, with four employees participating in the “Super Plunge” event — when Plungers jump into the Chesapeake Bay once an hour, every hour for 24 hours. This year, Aerotek employees from its Corporate and local offices, including several Aerotek Super Plungers, will again take the chilly dip to support the 10,000 Special Olympic athletes in Maryland. In addition to supporting the Maryland Chapter of Special Olympics, dozens of Aerotek offices across the United States also support local Special Olympic Chapters at similar fundraising events and Special Olympic athletic games.
Anyone interested in taking the Plunge must raise a minimum of $50 in pledges (or as a personal donation) in order to participate. With the $50 contribution, all participants receive a Plunge sweatshirt, lunch and a photo gift.
