Aerotek Awards First Annual Woburn Memorial High School Scholarship
Aerotek, Inc., an international provider of technical, professional and industrial staffing services, recently awarded Aerotek’s first annual Woburn Memorial High School Scholarship to Ashley Powers in the amount of $5,000. Powers was one of many graduating seniors who received scholarships during the Woburn Memorial High School Scholarship Night on June 3.
Applicants for the scholarship had to complete three essays, submit high school transcripts and a list of colleges where he/she had been accepted. Applicants were also asked to submit personal impact stories. Nine applications were submitted and the top three were selected and interviewed by Aerotek Scholarship Board Members from Aerotek’s Woburn office. Powers was selected based on her academic status, community involvement, participation in school and extracurricular activities and need for the scholarship. Powers will be attending Boston University in the fall where she will be studying biology.
“Ashley was a great candidate for the scholarship,” said Burt Baptiste, director of business operations for Aerotek’s Woburn office. “She is number two in her class and works extremely hard in school. Ashley was the best all-around candidate and with her overall work ethic and achievements she was well-deserving of this scholarship.”
As strong supporters of the Woburn community, Aerotek’s more than 40 employees conducted a two-hour telethon to help raise funds for the Woburn Memorial High School Scholarship Fund. Family, friends and local companies were asked to contribute to the local high school scholarship during a two-hour time span during office hours. A total of $15,000 was raised toward the Woburn Memorial High School Scholarship Fund through the telethon in addition to office raffles and other community events.
Aerotek awarded a total of $5,000 of the total money raised for the 2009 scholarship. The remaining funds raised have been placed in the Woburn Memorial High School Scholarship Fund and will be put toward 2010 scholarships. Aerotek hopes to award multiple scholarships in 2010 and increase the amount in future years.
