Aerotek Supports Special Olympics at 16th Annual Maryland State Police Polar Bear Plunge

01.26.2012

Aerotek, Inc., a leading recruiting and staffing provider based in Hanover, is supporting Special Olympics Maryland as the founding sponsor of the Maryland State Police Polar Bear Plunge. The event will be held on Saturday, Jan. 28 at Sandy Point State Park.

This year, Aerotek Plungers have surpassed last year’s funds by more than half. Aerotek has also agreed to match up to $25,000 of the funds raised by Aerotek employees. More than 100 Aerotek employees jumped into the Chesapeake Bay last winter, with two employees participating in the “Super Plunge” event — when plungers jump into the Chesapeake Bay every hour, for 24 hours. This year 134 Aerotek employees, from its corporate and local offices, will take the chilly dip to support the Maryland athletes. In addition to supporting the Maryland chapter of the Special Olympics, local Aerotek staffing offices across the U.S. support their local Special Olympic chapters at similar fundraising events and athletic games.

Since the event’s inception in 1997, approximately 72,000 people have taken the plunge, raising a total of $19.1 million for Maryland Special Olympics. Anyone interested in taking the plunge must raise a minimum of $50 in pledges (or as a personal donation) to participate. Registration is now open for the event and available online at www.plungemd.com.
